“I have taken some detours and have real life experience overcoming challenges, which has been the cornerstone of my nonjudgmental and understanding approach. I am not the rigid, unrelatable academic type; sessions with clients include laughter, tears, growth, and most importantly….RELIEF.”
Mikah Watford, MA, LPC, LCDC places equal importance on evidence-based practices and having an excellent therapeutic relationship with clients. Her genuine, caring approach aids in the efficacy of the science-backed treatments used in trauma, complex PTSD, anxiety, depression, and borderline personality disorder. She also treats male and female victims of sexual assault.
She completed her undergraduate degree at The University of Texas as San Antonio. She then worked at a non-profit teaching parent education as part of a government grant. She completed her Masters in Mental Health Counseling at Texas A&M San Antonio, which has support work focusing on serving military and veteran populations.
After graduate school she worked in private practices and a substance abuse rehabilitation center. She then practiced her work at a treatment facility serving veterans, military and first responders with PTSD. She became program manager of the facilities Intensive Outpatient Program.
She continued to grow her knowledge, skills and experiences in evidenced based treatments, particularly those addressing trauma. She was trained by the UT Health Science Center Strong Star Initiative in Cognitive Processing Therapy. She also trained in EMDR and ART eye movement therapies.
Mikah then founded MW Psychotherapy, in order to include other populations in those she has served. She realized so many in the San Antonio community needed a safe and accepting space to receive the most effective treatments for their challenges. Her goal is to honor your decision to make the call for help, by providing excellent mental health care.
